SPCA to the rescue on the first day of 2024
What a beautiful way to start the year!
Expectations are high for 2024!
Never more so, than in Parys.
A community effort of note unfolded in Boom Street, on the 1st of January this year.
As I drove down the street admiring the colourful Pride of India trees, I also saw a drenched, seemly lost dog in the middle of the road.
His friendliness surpassed his thirstyness. A bottle of water later, his thirst was quenched.
Cleary he was someone’s pet. A tag dangled from his collar…his details were immediately conveyed to the SPCA office.
Residents, runners and pedestrians alike, offered help. Alerts were sent out on at least 3 community groups… would his owners respond?
In no time at all, an efficient, friendly and professional young man from the SPCA arrived.
He accessed the situation in a calm, caring manner.
It was clear from the way in which he worked that he genuinely cared for our furry friend.
Even though the SPCA vehicle was not operational at that time, another vehicle was made available to facilitate this rescue.
The other cages inside the vehicle were rearranged in such a way to make space for the New Years Day celebrity.
As he was carefully bundled in, the bystanders held back tears knowing that it was a happy ending to his sojourn.
The details on his disc and meticulous records at the SPCA, allowed for the owner and their pet to be reunited.
What a beautiful way to start the year!
Kind, considerate residents, the hard-working SPCA and a caring and professional employee doing his job with pride.
Come on Parys…let’s support an organization that gives our town a good name!
