Voter registration turnout in Ngwathe

It is important to note that you may only vote in the voting district where you are registered in Election 2024.

A total of 7,410 eligible voters visited registration points in Ngwathe over the registration weekend on 18 and 19 November. Of these, 864 registered for the first time, while 1,311 re-registered. When the Gazette visited registration points in Parys over the weekend, the feedback was that stations had opened on time for voters to check whether they were registered on the voters’ roll or update their details for the 2024 national and provincial elections.

On Monday, the Independent Electoral Commission said it was satisfied with the number of voters who turned up. Sy Mamabolo, chief election officer of the IEC, said almost three million people were registered countrywide at the IEC’s 23,000 registration points, while 196,511 South Africans used the online portal.

A total of 586,374 new registrations were recorded; 1,4 million were re-registered in the same ward, and 923,564 in different ones.
Mamabolo confirmed that there will be a second registration weekend, the date of which will be announced later. The election date has not yet been set.

Meanwhile, voters can still register or update their details using the online portal, Mamabolo said. Go to www.registertovote.co.za and click ‘Ready to begin IEC process”.

You will only need to re-register if you have moved since you last registered or were previously registered outside of the voting district you live in.

It is important to note that you may only vote in the voting district where you are registered in Election 2024.
South Africans living abroad can register and vote in the 2024 national and provincial elections. Check the IEC’s website for updates on when overseas voter registration is open.
