Voter registration weekend: Here’s why you should check
What is very important is that the process has been adjusted since the last national election
On November 18 and 19, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is making registration points available nationwide where voters can register to vote in the 2024 election of members of the national parliament and provincial legislatures. The election is expected to take place sometime in or after May 2024. At the time of writing of this report, the election date had not yet been announced.
Registration officers will be available during the coming registration weekend at every polling station where voting can be done during the election to assist voters to register anew, or to check and, where necessary, update details on the electoral roll. All that is required to register or amend details on the electoral roll is your identity document or card.
What is very important is that the process has been adjusted since the last national election, and voters will now only be able to vote at the  voting point where they are registered.
This is a significant change with voters who previously could vote at any polling station in the country for members of parliament, and at any polling station in the province in which they are registered for members of the provincial legislatures. says Ngwathe Cllr Phillip van der Merwe from the Freedom Front Plus.
That is precisely why it is essential that voters use the opportunity to make sure that they can vote at the polling station closest to their residential address. Failure to change an address on the electoral roll if you have moved since the last election will mean that if you want to vote, you will have to travel to the polling station where you are registered, otherwise you will not be able to vote.
