Two years of miracles for Omri

Colin thanked everyone who prayed for Omri and helped with transport to visit him while he was in hospital.

Barely a year ago, things were quite tough for little Omri of the Emunah Foundation in Parys.

Last week, Omri celebrated his second birthday, and the smile said it all. Although he still has challenges with his health, this brave little toddler is doing fine now.

Omri came home from the hospital on Friday, 11 November 2022.

For the first time since he was born, he could drink 70 ml of milk from his bottle. Hospital personnel and speech therapists have trained Omri to drink again, and he has made tremendous progress with the help of doctors and nursing personnel while hospitalised at the Charlotte Maxeke, Nelson Mandela Children’s, Johannesburg General and Potchefstroom hospitals.

Doctors at the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital operated on him last year to clear an abdominal obstruction and wrap the top of his stomach around the lower oesophagus to make it less likely that acid would back up there.
Omri also has an enlarged heart chamber.

Before the age of five months, he started having trouble swallowing and had a feeding tube because of severe reflux. At the time of his admission to hospital last year, he only weighed seven kilogrammes.

The only place little Omri knows as home is the Emunah Foundation.

His mother abandoned him and left him in the baby safe at Emunah when he was only a month old. Since then, he has been loved and cared for at Emunah.

Shortly after his first birthday, his condition deteriorated, and he was admitted to the hospital.

One year later, on his second birthday, he is doing fine, says Colin Viljoen from Emunah, adding how they experienced the grace of God on their journey of miracles with Omri’s health challenges.

Colin thanked everyone who prayed for Omri and helped with transport to visit him while he was in hospital.

He also thanked everyone who reached out to Emunah over the past years, helping to provide a home for children like Omri, who only know the dark side of life.

Their parents no longer want some of them – others are neglected or mistreated or must be removed from their circumstances temporarily. Emunah welcomes any contributions at its premises at 50 First Avenue or monetary donations to Emunah Foundation NPC, Standard Bank, account number 042 317 983, branch code 051001.
