Online petition to get community voice heard against dry taps
Residents can sign either online or on the printed version at businesses, until May 5, whereafter the petition forms will then be handed to the municipality on May 12.
Signatures from people from the entire Parys community started pouring in since the weekend on an online petition form that was set up by the pressure group Save Ngwathe to let the community’s voice be heard about the Ngwathe municipality’s deficient water supply to its residents. In the memorandum that accompanies the petition form, pertinent questions are asked about the promised emergency generator for the town’s water treatment plant, as well as the time frame for establishing a direct power line to the water treatment plant.
On the digital platform, 1 820 people had already signed the petition at the time of print, while 1 900 signatures on printed petitions forms distributed at businesses were counted by 11:00 on the 25th of April.
With the distribution of the petition form, Save Ngwathe made a serious appeal to residents, businesses and even visitors to guest houses affected by the water crisis to complete the form. The group said although the petition form was set up by Save Ngwathe, it is a community driven initiative.
There is no age limit for people to sign the petition.
