Incidents of illegal land grabbing monitored

Through the executive mayor, the Community Services directorate and the responsible MMC continue to talk to residents via their councillors, urging them not to fall into the trap of unauthorised people giving them land without permission from the municipality.

Public Order Police members and the Parys SAPS kept a watchful eye after incidents of illegal land grabbing were reported in Parys Extension 15, along the Dover road, last week.
Ngwathe Local Municipality’s spokes-person, Mr Steve Naale, confirmed that the municipality is physically allocating sites to beneficiaries who hold site numbers, as per the application process and eligibility status.
He said, unfortunately, some people aware of this project are deliberately sabotaging and delaying it by taking matters into their hands. They create frustration and confusion in the community by illegally putting other people on municipal- owned land allocated to eligible beneficiaries.
“This also puts innocent people at risk with law enforcement agencies over trespassing,” as noted in a municipal statement.
Municipal officials who went on site on 12 and 13 October when the incidents occurred, advised community members not to occupy land without permission from the municipality because the area had already been allocated to beneficiaries. They warned that this could cause further unnecessary confrontation with land beneficiaries.
