Support the Work for Food Initiative and help keep our town clean

By joining hands, we can make this initiative work.

How do we get our town clean and provide relief to so many who cannot afford a decent meal, at the same time?
Free State Care in Action came up with the brilliant idea of working together to address both issues with the Work for Food Initiative, which has already shown results, especially in the area behind Shoprite, says Sanette Boonzaier from Free State Care in Action.

She adds that where they could hardly provide for the ever-growing need for daily meals in the past, the initiative caused a significant drop in the number of people queueing for food daily, establishing the idea of not only receiving but doing your part in the community.

The initiative, supported by Mooi Parys, started in May 2023.
With the food coupons, businesses and organisations can help someone in need with a nutritious meal provided by Free State Care in Action in Buiten Street, from Mondays to Fridays.

Free State Care in Action’s Amelia Tlali and Margaret Koto, together with Sanette Boonzaier, Selina Leotlela and Charisma Boonzaier.

How does it work?
People in need currently registered at Free State Care in Action, are allocated to participating businesses. They report to the shop or office at 08:00 to clean the front sidewalk.
They will have an identification card with them.

When done, the business owner gives them a coupon to hand in at the Free State Care in Action kitchen to receive their meal. One coupon assures them of a meal.

Twenty businesses currently support the initiative.

How do you become part of the initiative?
Interested businesses and organisations can phone Sanette at Free State Care in Action at 056 811 2971 or visit their offices in Buiten Street to get the food coupons free of charge if you want to be part of the initiative.
You can also call Braam Cilliers from MooiParys at 072 779 4079.

Let us motivate residents to support this initiative that will benefit our town and the ever-growing need for help for those in need, rather than simply giving money to people begging on the streets.
