Motorists cautioned on theft of motor vehicles

The past week two vehicles were stolen in Sasolburg and one in Parys.

The Fezile Dabi District Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) is investigating several cases of theft of motor vehicles in both Sasolburg and Parys the past week, and is cautioning motorists to be aware of their surroundings.

On Thursday 18 May a silver Toyota Yaris with registration number HL 33GN GP was stolen in Sasolburg during a rugby match. The following day a Toyota Fortuner was stolen at the DP de Villiers stadium, also in Sasolburg. According to the 32-year-old victim he parked his vehicle at the stadium as he was attending his child’s school match. After disembarking the vehicle, he made sure all the doors were locked and the windows were closed. To his surprise, after the match, he found the vehicle with registration HKM 426 FS, to be missing.

The third incident was reported at Parys SAPS on Saturday, 20 May when a bronze coloured Toyota Fortuner with registration HXF 748 FS was stolen. The vehicle was in a parking lot at a restaurant.

Anyone who might have information on locating the above-mentioned vehicles is urged to contact Sergeant Moorosi Mokoena of the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit on 076 791 5740, or anonymously on the MySAPS App.
Vehicle owners are cautioned to be extra vigilant of their surroundings at all times. Keep in a safe place a copy of the registration documents and memorise the registration number of the vehicle. This will help the police when you report the vehicle as stolen, sgt Josephine Rani, spokesperson for the police said.
