Having fresh, clean and drinkable water is a human right

My mother in law lives in Parys in the Saligna area and has done so for many years. My wife and I visit her every Christmas for many years from the UK and spend a lot of money supporting businesses locally within Parys and I have always been shaken by the sheer contamination of the water coming from the taps.
Frequently my wife has been told that her mother is without any water or has very low water pressure. This, in the 21st Century is an absolute disgrace.
Today my Mother in Law sent us a photo of the water from her tap.
Recently a judge in the High Court decided the town’s water issue is not urgent. Perhaps he’d like to drink some.
The service delivery of clean drinkable water is invoiced to residents by the municipality whose duty it is to provide exactly that!! Clean drinking water, fit for drinking, washing etc, which is a natural human right.
The municipality is failing in that duty terribly. No clean water and no service delivery. How on earth can the municipality expect residents to pay for a service which is unusable, a service so full of contaminants as to be nearly life threatening???
It is a disgrace and personally I feel that the whole of the municipality executive should either resign or be sacked. The engineers who are supposed to monitor and keep the water safe and fit for human consumption should be sacked and competent, qualified individuals employed to ensure that such work is carried out efficiently and promptly.
My mother in law is very “old school” and not the complaining type but enough of this charade is enough. I felt that somebody far removed from the situation should let the municipality realise that people outside of their little “kingdom” are very aware of their failings and their corruption.
The bottom line really is what are you as the representatives of your community going to do about the situation, it cannot stay as it is for a fact!!!
