FINAL NGWATHE REPAIRS TO BE CONCLUDED THIS SUNDA
SATURDAY, 09 JULY 2022: As indicated in a media statement issued on Tuesday, 05 July
2022, a planned outage is required to repair Eskom equipment that was damaged when
overloading on Ngwathe Local Municipality’s electricity network resulted in the tripping of
Eskom’s network on Friday, 01 July 2022.
In the abovementioned statement that was issued after supply to Parys and Vredefort was
restored, Eskom said that the repairs completed on Monday, 04 July 2022, only addressed
the hot connections and were sufficient to restore supply, but that details of another outage
that is required to repair other damage will be shared with our customer, Ngwathe Local
Municipality.
In a notice issued to Ngwathe on Friday, 08 July 2022, Eskom indicated that the planned
interruption is scheduled for Sunday, 10 July 2022, from 07h00 to 17h00. While we have an
appreciation for the inconvenience that this outage will place on the Parys and Vredefort
communities, we urge them to please bear with us while these critical repairs are concluded.
At the time of the outage, Eskom will also be dismantling our spare transformer that is currently
stored in Parys Substation. This transformer will be taken to a different location for repairs.
In anticipation of Ngwathe accepting our quotation for the upgrade of its supply and to avoid
delays when such time comes, another transformer will arrive at Parys Substation on
Thursday, 14 July 2022.
Regulations compel both Eskom and the Municipality to maintain and protect electrical
infrastructure to ensure a safe and secure supply of electricity. Communities are therefore
encouraged to support the Municipality in their efforts to protect the power system from
overloading
