In her message at the official opening of the Parys Town Clinic, the FS MEC for Health, Montseng Tsiu, thanked Sasol Mining for changing the lives of the people of Ngwathe. She said health is everyone’s responsibility and pleaded with the community to look after the clinic.
She said the facility will ensure that a comprehensive primary healthcare service is accessible to the community. She added that the department’s vision for the next financial year is to make the clinic accessible to the community 24 hours.

The well-equipped primary healthcare clinic and pharmacy was built at a cost of R12,5 million, and is one-of-a-kind in the Fezile Dabi district.

It is the first municipal clinic in South Africa to solely operate on solar power and has two 2500 litre each water catchment systems to ensure uninterrupted service.  The facility houses eight consulting rooms with x-ray capabilities, a dental care room, counselling room, a pharmacy and a kitchen for the clinic staff.

The clinic is unique in the sense that the floor plan follows the so-called “ideal clinic” model. It ensures patient flow, with the core focus areas being chronic diseases, maternal and child health, and acute services. It also offers pharmaceutical- and rehabilitation services, dentistry and dietetics.

The Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela officially opened the new Parys Town Clinic in Buiten Street with a ribbon-cutting and plaque unveiling ceremony on Tuesday. Among the guests of honour were the Free State MEC of Health Montseng Tsiu, head of Department Godfrey Mahlatsi, the director-general Kopung Ralikontsane, Ngwathe executive mayor, Victoria de Beer, and Sasol’s senior vice president Sasolburg and Ekandustria Operations, Mr Rightwell Laxa, as well as other Sasol representatives. Ngwathe Municipality made the land for the clinic available, and the Department of Health furnished and equipped the clinic.

The value of the clinic and firefighting emergency vehicles received total R15, 2 million.
