1Life research shows that 41% of men over age 40 have some form of chronic health concern – broken up predominantly into diabetes, heart disease, cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Furthermore,  stats show that more men than women smoke. Not only is this concerning from a general health perspective but 3 out of these four chronic conditions, as well as smoking, put men at higher risk of cancer.

If we couple this with the fact that 1 in 18 men or 25% of men are likely to get prostate cancer, then there is no doubt that a focus on men’s health is more important than ever before. Yet, men don’t speak about it, don’t plan for it – with only 21% of the sample size having dread disease cover – and very often don’t test for it.

This men’s health month (with Men’s Health Week taking place next week), isn’t it time we shine a light not only on speaking out around health issues and getting preventative care but very importantly, on the importance of planning for the unforeseen.
