Cattle worth over R700,000 stolen

According to Carletonville police’s communication officer, WO Peter Masooa, the incident occurred at approximately 20:00 on 4 April. Four cattle herders were looking after cattle next to the P111 between Carletonville and Westonaria. They were in a small building near the road that used to house a farm shop when they heard footsteps outside. Suddenly, someone tried to push the door open, and they leaned against it to keep the intruder out. The thugs then fired a shot through the door. Although it did not hit anyone, the herders realised that they had to comply with the criminals’ demands. The group of about eight Basotho men took the 71 cattle in their care, valued at R790,000, and fled with them. Luckily, the police recovered 31 of the cattle near Libanon. The police are investigating attempted murder and stock theft charges following the incident.
