A 25 year old Mozambican was arrested after he and his two partners in crime, who are currently still on the run, robbed two hitchhikers near Vaal Bridge in Vierfontein on Saturday, 12 March  at about 23:30.
The two victims hitchhiked  from Orkney and wanted to go to Viljoenskroon, Capt Malebo Khosana, spokesperson for the police in Fezile Dabi said.
The two unsuspecting males agreed with a driver of a motor vehicle that he would take them to Viljoenskroon.  To their surprise, they were then threatened with a firearm and robbed of cash, cell phones and a bag with clothes.
The two victims managed to escape when they jumped out of the moving vehicle. Luckily, there was a police vehicle driving behind them.  They informed the police members that they have been robbed.
Members of Vierfontein arrested the driver of the motorvehicle.  The two other suspects managed to evade the arrest.  The stolen cell phones, cash and clothes were recovered.
The police is investigating a case of armed robbery.
The 25 year old suspect  from Kanana near Orkney, appeared in the Viljoenskroon Magistrate’s Court today, Monday, 14 March 2022.
The office of the Acting District Commissioner of Fezile Dabi would like to raise awareness to  community members to refrain from hitchhiking.  As we approach the Easter Weekend, more people will be lining the hiking spots to various destinations far, near in and across the Fezile Dabi District, was said.
