Backlog at Vredefort Licencing station will be addressed, says department

The Department of Police, Roads and Transport this week apologised for the inconvenience caused to the public due to the temporary closure of the Parys Licencing and Testing Station. Spokesperson Hilary Mopethe said that officials from Parys will be assisting at the Vredefort office.

She said that since a robbery at the Vredefort office in July 2019, the office has unfortunately been operating on only one system which was untill now sufficient, serving a small community. With the Parys Licencing and Testing Station not functional at present, complaints from the public about slow service delivery have been addressed, and that the matter regarding additional computers has been reported, Mopethe said.

She added that the station is awaiting the delivery of extra computers to address the backlog experienced.

Mopethe also confirmed that the entire building of the Parys Licencing and Testing Station is facing electrical problems and that the wiring needs to be replaced.

Although the matter was attended to by the local municipality as well as the department’s own maintenance section, it could not be resolved, she said. The Department is now in the process of appointing a service provider to rectify the wiring before the installation of new equipment.

The public of Parys is advised to in the meanwhile, either make use of the Vredefort or Sasolburg Licencing and Testing Stations for all transactions.
