Parys Hospital celebrating Pregnancy Awareness Week

Handing out a fruit parcel to Julia Makoakoa in the maternity ward of Parys District Hospital, are staff members Sister Plaatjie, Sister Pule, Sister Khola, Dr Inge Kestlmeier, Matron Makatsa and Hesna Theron (dietitian at Parys District Hospital).

Last week, Parys District Hospital joined in the national initiative in celebration of Pregnancy Awareness Week. Staff members contributed towards the fruit that was handed out to pregnant women who attended the high-risk clinic and sonar appointments, and to all the mothers in the maternity ward.

The Free State Health Department sponsored three diaper bags that the staff raffled out. The names of those who had booked early for the antenatal clinic at the hospital, and attended the antenatal visits regularly, were entered for the lucky draw. The hospital also used the opportunity to provide the women present with more information on what to expect on their babies’ delivery day and the importance of a healthy diet, especially for pregnant women.
