The woman who was attacked by her employer’s three pitbulls on 25 January has lost the sight in her right eye. She has recently recovered from Covid which she apparently contracted while recovering in the Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital.

The dogs ripped off her top lip, parts of her nose and ears.

Netwerk24, reports that Dipuo Selina Kokolosi (47) can now receive several operations to her lip, ears and nose.

“I tried to feed my mother but the food keeps falling out of her mouth. Her biggest wish is that she can just look like herself again,” Kokolosi’s daughter, Patricia Modise told Netwerk24.

According to Modise, the neighbour of her mother’s employer, Ziggy and Mickey Abdullah, have been very supportive. “She has been sending me transport money to get to Potchefstroom and is still taking care of me and my kids while my mother is in the hospital. It is very difficult to see my mom in this condition and I cannot do anything about it. I am trying to be strong for my two kids,” Patricia told the Herald earlier.

A woman from Johannesburg, Alma McGill, who read about the attack, was so shocked that she started a funding initiative to support Kokolosi and her family during her recovery. By Tuesday afternoon, the Back a buddy campaign she started, had raised R44 465. Any donations can be made by following this link

According to Netwerk24, the employer’s lawyer stated that she (the employer) contacts the hospital daily to see how Kokolosi is doing.

“She has also visited her and offered to support the family financially,” the lawyers said.

According to Col. Adele Myburgh, police spokesperson, the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

“The investigation has been delayed because at first the victim was no table to speak and afterwards she could not be visited due to her contracting Covid,” Myburgh said.
