Fireworks festivity: Pet owners, please take note

Take note that the Tumahole Legacy Foundation will host its second annual Fireworks Festivity at the municipal grounds next to the Fezile Dabi Stadium in Tumahole on Thursday, 16 December. The festival will take place from 18:00 till late.

The purpose of the festivity is to celebrate unity and reconciliation among all cultures, say the organisers. Everyone is welcome to attend with their families. Entrance is free and the foundation will strictly adhere to Covid 19 protocols.

To ensure that your pets are safe during the fireworks, the SPCA recommends the following guidelines

● Always keep your pets inside when fireworks are being let off.

● Make sure your dog is walked earlier in the day before the fireworks start.

● Use food, medication, toys and games to distract and calm.

● Avoid leaving your pet alone during such potentially upsetting events.

● Close all windows and doors and block off catflaps to stop pets from escaping. Attempt to mask any noise by drawing curtains and playing calming music at a reasonable volume.

* Seek professional advice from your veterinarian if necessary.

* Ensure all animals have identification.
