Make sure you’re ward boundaries did not change to avoid a surprise on election day

Only a few hours left to check you're registration

Remember that the 75 voting stations in the 19 wards of Ngwathe’s five towns, will close at 17:00 today (Sunday 19 September) to end the final registration weekend for the municipal elections on 1 November. It is important to check that you are registered and on the voters roll. Check that your name and address details appear correctly on the voters’ roll, especially if you have moved, or ward boundaries shifted since you last voted.

There was indeed registered voters who checked online if they were registered and got confirmation, but when visiting the voting station where they used to vote, discovered that ward boundaries had since changed and they were no longer registered at the correct voting station according to their address.

Municipal voters must cast their ballots in the wards where they live.

Remember also to register when you turned 18 and have not registered to vote as yet.

IEC officials said that people should not only check on the political party of their choice’s lists whether they are registered when going to a voting station, but rather also check all your details on the VMDs (Voting Management Devices) inside the voting stations. These devices replaced the old zip-zip machines. Although all voting stations that Gazette visited did experience problems with the VMD’s on Saturday, and systems being offline at some votings stations again this morning when visited, IEC officials assured the public that they captured all detail manually when not online. Problems were also reported on Saturday of some voters struggling to check their details online.

In the NG Wes voting station was by far the busiest voting station over the weekend when Gazette paid a visit to the station.

At the library no new registrions was done on Saturday and only 1 by 11:00 on Sunday.  T
