Roadies lace up for a new season of running

The Athletics Free State Road Running Commission opened entries for the first AFS Road Running Interclub Series on 1 September 2021. The interclub series is presented under the auspices of Athletics Free State, as per the rules and regu- lations of AFS, ASA and World Athletics.

This series is a first of its kind, where the safety benefits of virtual runs are combined with the option to complete your race in a club context and under Covid compliance regulations. This is a three-part series, where athletes can compete in any or all of 1.6 km (mile), 5 km, 10 km and 21.1 km race distances between 1 September and 30 November 2021. No seeding and records will be recognised, but the results may be used for statistical purposes to identify new talent and consideration for provincial road running team or squad selection. The main objective of this event is to engage the communities near and around athletics clubs in the Free State during a time when real road races are difficult to find or attend. This event also provides athletes with an opportunity to participate at a pro- vincial level event and receive recognition for their achievements without exposing themselves to the risk and cost of travelling and attending mass participation events.

The Athletics Free State Road Running Commission invites all affiliated athletics clubs in the province to register for this event. A once-off club entry fee is all it takes for a club to enter an unlimited number of athletes. Athletes’ results are submitted by their respective clubs to be included in the provincial results for this event. Parys Multisport is one of the AFS- affiliated clubs that are entered for this series. Club members of Parys Multisport have already started chasing their new goals in this event. Results from scheduled club runs, club time trials and recognised track, cross country and road running events are recognised.

Run with the club this spring to show your support for Parys SPCA.

Parys Multisport invites new and existing athletes to join the club and participate in or volunteer at the club runs that are scheduled between 1 September and 30 November 2021, in support of the Parys SPCA. Club runs are done on measured routes that include 1.6 km, 5 km, 10 km and 21.1km distances that are backed up by water aid stations and support. Athletes only pay R30 per scheduled club run, of which R20 will be donated to the Parys SPCA.

Join the club and start running today.
