Last chance to register

The final Registration Weekend for the municipal elections are this Saturday and Sunday. All 75 voting stations in the 19 wards of Ngwathe’s five towns will be open from 08:00 to 17:00 on both days. People voting for the first time will be able to register – especially those who turn 18 before Election Day on 1 November.

Registered voters may check that their names and correct details appear on the voters roll, and they will be able to make changes, especially to their addresses if they have moved, or their ward boundary has shifted. Municipal voters must cast their ballots in the wards where they live.

DA Cllr Shirley Vermaak, member of the IEC’s liaison committee, says strict Covid- 19 protocol will be observed at all voting stations. Remember to take your ID or temporary ID document, as well as your mask to the voting station when you register. You can avoid queues by registering, checking your details or changing your address online, or by visiting the IEC officials in the Forum Building during office hours this week, Vermaak said.

For the first time Voting Management Devices (VMDs) will be used by officials. These replace the old zip-zip machines. Applications for Special Votes open after the voters roll closes on Monday, 20 September, and will close on 4 October.
