Safripol and Vaal Action Group join forces in clean-up effort

Safripol and Vaal Action Group join forces in clean-up effort

On 11 September, members of the Parys community, together with employees of Safripol (Sasoburg and Bryanston) and their families, will combine their efforts to clean up the beautiful Sandgat area in town. Sandgat is one of the lesser-known areas of Parys, situated just below the Rotary camp at the end of town.

It is a beautiful nature area with magnificent views of the Vaal River. Unfortunately, because of its remoteness, “recyclers” often use this area to inspect their haul of garbage bags and separate them into recyclables. They then leave the discarded garbage behind.

This results in large-scale pollution of the area as well as the surrounding river, as it gets blown into the water by the wind. People off-loading refuse also use the site as a rubbish dump. The area is equally under pressure from sewage pollution from a manhole that overflows directly into the river when there are problems at the River pump station.

Safripol and the Vaal Action Group are hosting the event in conjunction with Rotary Parys, Rise and Shine Community Foundation and Ngwathe Residents’ Association. The Vaal Action Group welcomes Safripol’s initiative as a corporate entity, involved in manufacturing polymers, for taking a stand against pollution and contributing to the recycling of reusable plastics. The proceeds from the recyclables picked up, will go towards the Vaal Action Group’s cleaning efforts.

Please note that the anticipated number of participants has already been reached for this event. However, the public will be informed before future events.
