Standing together for better service delivery

Braam Celliers and June Britten writes:

Parys in Action would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all our continued supporters and new donors, who came on board last week, in helping to keep the main streets of Parys clean and tidy through their generosity.

We are now into our 7th month of weekly clean-ups and are gaining momentum by bringing new donors on board. On average it costs Parys In Action R1000 each week to maintain this routine as the three very willing helpers have proved themselves to be committed and very diligent in filling between 80 and 90 bags each time. These bags are also removed the same day leaving Breê Street litter free for the tourists and residents to enjoy till the next clean-up! On 5th May we finally got around to clearing away all the dead branches and litter in Allenby Street near the rose tunnels, that had been left there by Ngwathe contractors.

Our sincere gratitude to the two residents who contributed donations for this removal and to Anette for disposing of this in a legal manner. Much to the dismay of many who live in this street the branches of these Mimosa trees were not cut away professionally leaving a lot of them dead. It has also come to our attention that there is not only cable theft that is destroying businesses, but a lot of metal/steel drain covers are also being stolen. The situation is now dire, and our town is getting destroyed by many who see the need to make a living from this by selling it off to the scrap dealers. Not only is this blatant theft but someone injuring themselves by stepping into the hole can lead to severe injury and the real possibility of the Municipality facing charges of criminal neglect.

We are therefore asking the public that should they witness this, to please report it to the SAPS whose duty it is to apprehend the offenders. The plea also goes out to all our scrap dealers to please reject any sales that appear suspect and to also report it to the officials whose task it is to maintain a safe run town. Please keep up your support – Parys needs you.

Many thanks to one and all.
