Police concerned about rise in school minibus theft

About six Quantum school buses were reported stolen from schoolyards since March 2020. Of those, five have been recovered. The white Toyota Quantum minibus that was stolen from Clocolan High School on 17 November is still missing. Preliminary investigations show that Toyota Quantum minibus taxis used as school buses are specifically targeted in the Free State. They are stolen while parked inside schoolyards. All the buses that were taken were branded with the school’s name on the sides. Of the six stolen, one was taken from an old age home and another at the Ladybrand children’s home. One was stolen from a Zastron school, another in Clocolan, one from a Harrismith school and one from a school in Marquard. Members of the public are urged to report any suspicious-looking schoolbus or minibus they see driving around in the early hours of the morning or late at night. The vehicle might be stolen or used without the school’s knowledge. In any such event, contact your nearest police station.
