Sasol upgrades Abrahamsrust Resort

SASOLBURG. – The Sasol-owned Abrahamsrust Resort on the banks of the Vaal River was closed on 10 October 2019 when the 22 year lease to the Metsimaholo Local Municipality expired.

This was done to improve safety and health related measures before the resort could be reopened to the public. With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, work was done on the park homes to serve as an isolation facility for Sasol’s Sasolburg Operations and Natref employees who were unable to self-isolate at home.

The chalets were also used to accommodate SANDF personnel who were on points duty in the area.

Sasol is currently upgrading:
•the entrance gate and roads in the resort;
•the pool and braai areas;
•the fresh water and sanitary networks;
•the jetty; and
•refurbishing the chalets.
These upgrades will improve the safe functionality of the resort. Sasol intends to lease the resort to a reputable operator for a specific period. Advertisements to attract interested bidders will be placed in local media before the end of the year. Sasol is taking this course to ensure that Abrahamsrust once again becomes and remains a sought-after recreational facility in the Vaal Triangle that grants our employees and fence-line communities’ safe access to the Vaal River.
