Fibre installation: No need to worry about these roadmarks

Residents in Schilbach Street might have noticed roadmarks that have not been there before. No need to worry.

Veatel, Vumatel’s Main Contractor, has started the civil construction for the 75km of fibre running through town.  This will mean fast, uninterrupted fibre internet becoming a reality for Parys.

Construction is estimated to be completed by end of September, with the first live installations planned for
October.

Construction teams started at the Point of Presence (POP) in Schilbach Street and will be wearing safety jackets and ID cards at all times to identify themselves.

Scanning will be done priorly by the teams for detection and  identification of underground services before any invasive or civil engineering groundwork. A variety of detection methods and equipment will be used to locate, identify and map underground pipes, cables, anomalies and other services in verges, roads, driveways etc. For road crossings, especially with regard to drills and roadcuts, the subsurface is screened with gound penetrating radar (GPR).

All these services are then marked with spray paint on the surface. The paint is environmentally friendly and water soluble. It takes a few good weeks of washes or rain before completely disappearing, as the markings need to stay visible for the duration of the civil process.

Please read the full report in this week’s Parys Gazette on exactly what residents can expect to see during the next 3 months while constructing the fibre network.

During the building process community WhatsApp groups will be created in conjunction with your ward councillor.  Should there be any issues residents will be able to contact the Veatel teams. Constant updates and progress will  be communicated on these groups and other social media platforms. You can approach the teams on site if there is anything you want to bring to their attention.
