Security guards arrested after tip-off

 

Two security guards, guarding the property of the Mayor of Ngwathe, were arrested on Sunday 28 June, after the police received information of the carrying of firearms without  the required documentation for the firearms in question.

Although the firearms were licenced, the documentation were not in the possession of the guards at the time of the search. No other confiscation were made. The guards were also not illegal immigrants, as was said in information shared on social media.

The private security company was appointed by die Ngwathe Local Municipality  and not the Mayor to safeguard the property.

The guards were released on bail after a formal bail application in court on Monday 29 June.
