The Free State Department of Health confirmedĀ  a total of 33 positive cases of Covid-19 in the Fezile Dabi district.
The department said it had spent a considerable time verifying the recent 24 cases that tested positive to Covid-19 in Fezile Dabi, and added that the department is doing its best to trace all the contacts of people that tested positive.
The recent cases are for the following towns:
ā€¢9 in Heilbron
ā€¢4 in Koppies
ā€¢3 in Sasolburg
ā€¢3 in Parys
ā€¢2 in Frankfort
ā€¢1 in Vredefort
ā€¢1 in Kroonstad
ā€¢1 in Deneysville

The department appealed to people in the affected communities to stay calm and take care by practicing the basic principles of hygiene such as:
ā€¢Washing your hands with running water and soap for between 20 and 40 seconds,
ā€¢Use 70% alcohol based hand sanitizer if you canā€™t access water and soap,
ā€¢ Cover your cough and sneeze with your folded arm or with a tissue that must be easily and safely disposed in a closed lid bin.
ā€¢Use your three ply or layered cloth face mask whenever you leave your home and going to public places,
ā€¢Keep a safe social distance of 1 to 2 meters between yourself and the next person.
ā€¢No handshaking, hugging and kissing.

Each person in our communities can practice the above mentioned prevention actions and help to curb the spread of Covid-19, the department said.

ā€œThere is no evidence that this virus is airborne. However, it is spread through droplets that can land on a person through cough and sneeze, or through touching surfaces that have these droplets and then touching your mouth, nose and eyes with unclean hands.ā€

The department asked people not to panick when they hear that thereā€™s a Covid-19 case in any town. ā€œAlthough thereā€™s no cure to Covid-19, we know that thereā€™s a higher number of recoveries,ā€ the department said.

People with underlying health issues is asked to take extra care to avoid getting sick. ā€œWe plead for proactive prevention actions from everyone by following the basic health hygiene practices and staying away from environments that can infect you.ā€

Every Covid19 person must be safely kept in isolation facility as may be prescribed by health officials or safely quarantined in health department facilities.
