“Covid-19 world pandemic has drawn us together”

Anyone in the area who would like to partner with Rotary in the form of “hands or rands” is urged to contact Louis on 082 372 6988 or Renee Hartslief on 071 448 4332.

In recent months, the Rotary Club of Parys has undertaken small service projects, typically con- ducted by individual members. “The Covid-19 world pandemic has brought us together. Our members have decided to invest a substantial part of the funds we have raised over the years in relief for the worst-affected victims of the Coronavirus in our community,” says President Louis Janse van Rensburg. To kickstart the process, Rotary donated vouchers to two local organisations, the Red Ribbon Project and Epilepsy SA’s Free State/North West Centre. Van Rensburg explains: “We are taking a long-term view of when and where our donations will be made in the coming months”.
The amount set aside has been fixed, but the timing and bene- ficiaries of the support are flexible and will be determined as the most critical community needs unfold in the uncertain times ahead.
The club’s immediate focus is on supplying food, masks and sanitiser but that will be adapted as other requirements are identified.
Going forward, the Rotary Club of Parys will favour projects that support local manufacturers and suppliers and those that stimulate job retention and creation.
