Offenders caught at provincial border

Traffic officers of the Merafong City Local Municipality were part of a large interprovincial roadblock on Sunday, 5 April.

Members of the SAPS, SANDF and the Gauteng and North West traffic departments were also part of the operation. They stopped 159 vehicles and asked the drivers why they were crossing the provincial boundary.
A total of 185 vehicles were searched. Of these, 20 drivers were forced to return to where they had come from. Six fines, to the value of R3,600, were issues at the roadblock and the authorities even arrested a driver for driving under the influence of liquor. His car was confiscated and is being kept at the Fochville police station.
The traffic officers have also been busy elsewhere in the municipal area.
They issued a total of 15 fines to the amount of R13,400 and impounded 13 taxis on Saturday, 4 April. Another five taxis were impounded the next day be- cause the drivers had not complied with the current lockdown legislation.
Patrols took place in Welverdiend, Khutsong and Carletonville to check if people were adhering to the lockdown regulations and issued fines where necessary.
