De Beers Group and Ngwathe offer Covid-19 aid

De Beers Group’s Voorspoed Mine has partnered with the Ngwathe Local Municipality to offer aid to local communities amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

On 2 April, Voorspoed Mine delivered health and safety protective equipment and 300 litres of sanitiser to Parys Hospital and the Emergency Medical Services as part of the Mayoral COVID-19 community support programme.
The Mayoral COVID-19 community support programme aims to combat the pandemic by bringing private institutions, non-governmental organisations and various vital stakeholders together from across the Free State Province to help curb the spread of the virus.
The Executive Mayor of Ngwathe Local Municipality, Ms Joey Mochela, said: “A collective effort in both awareness and rapid response to the pandemic is in the best interest of our society. The less privileged, in particular, are the ones who continue to depend on our public health facilities.”

De Beers, in its turn, said the group is proud to partner with Parys Hospital, which has been proactive in the Covid-19 community response plans through educational awareness campaigns and dialogue sessions, in collabo-ration with various local stakeholders.
Parys Hospital’s chief executive, Ms Nthabiseng Malinga, thanked Voorspoed Mine for the donation and said it would contribute towards infection control at the medical facility. The hospital has also developed home quarantine packs that include aprons, thermometers, sanitisers, gloves and masks for home consumption. The kits will be distributed to all local clinics within Ngwathe Sub-District.

Lebogang Mphaka, Voorspoed Mine’s Corporate Affairs Manager, said: “The outpouring of the provincial solidarity and support, sparked by this shared global challenge, has been phenomenal. On behalf of De Beers Group, we urge everyone to stay at home, be safe, sanitise and wash their hands frequently during the national lockdown.”
