Police keeping an eye on funerals

Any person who contravenes with this regulations shall be guilty of an offence and on conviction be liable of a fine of a fine or to imprisonment period not exceeding 6 months or both. Unlawful gathering shall be immediately dispensed by the Law Enforcement Officials.

On Saturday 28 March, the second day of lockdown for SA, police were already keeping a close eye on funerals, making sure that mourners and funeral houses adhere to lockdown regulations.
By 09:00 today, Saturday morning 28 March,  8 funerals were visited in Parys- some not complying. This was rectified and people warned to keep to the rule of social distancing.
Police once again warned that they will act upon people not adhering to the rules. You can face very high fines and imprisonment for not adhering.
What are the rules for funerals during the lockdown period as published by The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, promulgated under the Disaster Management Act, 2002 (Act No 57 of 2002, on 25 March 2020)
* Funerals are limited to 50 people (live streaming and videos will be used where possible to accommodate extra number BUT NO MORE THAN 50 PEOPLE AT A FUNERAL.
* The floor size of the venue of the funeral must be proportional to the maximum number of permissable mourners.
* Social distancing apply of at least 1 square meter from one another.
* It is advised only immediate family to attend the funeral.
* No night vigils to be held
* Hand washing should occur frequently.
* No hand washing in communal bowls. Individual handwashing with soap and running water is advised. Air drying of hands is recommended.
* Catering should be in prepacked take away containers and not on plates. No sharing of utensils is allowed.
* No ill persons to attend the funeral.
* Funeral time should be limited to 2 hours to limit contact time.
