Ngwathe local municipality statement on Nationwide lockdown announcement by President
of the Republic, as a result of COVID-19 outbreak.

Ngwathe local municipality has noted and welcomes the statement made by Mr Cyril
Ramaphosa, the President of the Republic of South Africa, regarding the Corona virus
outbreak.
The Executive Mayor of Ngwathe local municipality Cllr MJ Mochela has further requested
residents to adhere to the regulations that have already been put in place. The municipality
further supported the President’s call on containment and prevention of the spreading of the
disease as our first and only line of defence.
In this regard the Executive Mayor has convened the Senior Management team as they seek
to localize the President’s instructions. According to the municipal spokesperson the
following measures are designed to provide clarity to the roll out of essential services,
payment for services, movement of personnel and community generally.
The following was agreed upon:
1. The provision of electricity, sanitation, fire and rescue, refuse removal services will
continue uninterrupted as normal.
2. As the President has not announced any payment holiday for services, all pay points
across the five towns will remain open for shortened hours (Until 13H00 daily
excluding weekends), in addition, payment at Spar, Pick & Pay, Checkers and other
Supermarkets with the Easy pay services and Filling Stations.
3. Electricity purchases shall continue as normal in vending stations except for
restriction under clause 2
4. The distribution of water to residents through Jojo tanks and water tankers are to be
augmented by a request to Sedibeng and Rand water for an additional Jojo tanks and
water tankers. This also meant to provide for the Informal settlements. On the other
hand, the work of fixing the trident water plant is continuing as scheduled with the
objective of restoring water supply in both Parys and Tumahole, soonest. In this
regard we have received feedback from the contractor on site that progress is been
made.
Other services that are not listed will resume after the lockdown.
