Woman missing in Vaal Dam after jumping in water

NSRI Vaal Dam duty crew will join Police on Friday in an ongoing search carried out by the SA Police Services and Police Dive Units to search for the woman.

The woman is believed to be approximately 30.

“Our NSRI rescue craft Harveys Fibreglass, on Saturday, 14 March had responded to reports of a craft adrift and the crew reporting to have run out of fuel at approximately 20h30,” Jake Manten, NSRI Vaal Dam Station Commander, said.

“Arriving on the scene at Groot Island we found 5 crew (2 males and 3 females) on the craft which was adrift from fuel starvation. The 5 casualty crew reported that one lady had jumped out the boat and they had attempted to rescue her but she had disappeared under water.”

NSRI commenced a search and after no sign of her was found, the 5 casualty crew were taken to shore to their house at South Bay.

Police and Police Dive Units were alerted and NSRI returned to the scene and searched into Sunday early morning.

“On Sunday from first light Police and NSRI Vaal Dam continued in an extensive search but no sign of the woman was found and Police have continued search efforts. NSRI Vaal Dam will join these ongoing search efforts on Friday,” Manten said.
