In the advert Eskom confirmed its threat of last month that it will cut electricity because the Merafong City Local Municipality is not paying its account with the electricity provider.

“After careful consideration of all the representations and the overall impact of the escalating debt, Eskom has taken a decision to proceed with the contemplated interruption of bulk electricity supply to Merafong City Local Municipality,” a part of the advertisement, which is headed “Final decision on the interruption of bulk electricity supply to Merafong City Local Municipality (Fochville)” reads.

Eskom placed the advertisement despite the fact that the municipality has so far claimed that it will be able to reach an amicable agreement with Eskom over the matter.
