Cyclists take on 2,500 kilometres for children

With the help of those who sponsored them for their tour or gave donations, he and his teammates will purchase bicycles, mattresses, stationery, a variety of sports balls, toiletries and backpacks for the children placed in the home.

Six friends, 18 days and a journey of over 2,500 kilometres. The goal – to give the children of the President Kruger Children’s Home something special.
The 4TheKids Cycle Tour, organised by Eugene Pienaar, started at the Beitbridge border on 15 February. Last Thursday, their tour took them through Parys. After an overnight stay at Egweni, they started off to Theunissen early Friday morning.
Eugéne has a longstanding association of more than 13 years with the President Kruger Children’s Home, having done some fundraising for them in the past. The home, with two branches – one in Pretoria and the other in Reddersburg, cares for 126 children whom the courts have removed from their parents for various reasons.
Eugene has witnessed the longing of the children to enjoy the simple things in life, like having a loving family and a loving home, and has yearned to do more for some years now.
With the help of those who sponsored them for their tour or gave donations, he and his teammates will purchase bicycles, mattresses, stationery, a variety of sports balls, toiletries and backpacks for the children placed in the home.
The team, consisting of Eugene, Kindy Theunissen, Wybrandt Lambrecht, Stephan Redelinghuys and Derrick and Maritha Feldman (with a 2-person support team) will arrive in Cape Town on 6 March. After that, their tour will finally end with all cycling the 109-km Cape Town Cycle Tour on 8 March.
