Vaal Dam water levels rise, but every drop still counts!

Vaal Dam water levels rise, but every drop still counts!

For the first time in months the Vaal Dam water levels enjoyed positive weekly growth. It’s now 44.08% full. Since last Tuesday, the water levels have been on a slow and steady rise resulting in a 5% increase.

It is believed that the heavy storms which hit the north of Gauteng last week are finally having an impact. This also resulted in the  Hartbeespoort Dam overflowing.

This is all good news, but the Vaal Dam still has a long way to go – thus every drop still counts. People must still use water sparingly. In light of this situation, a local resident was very unhappy and sent in the photo above of a water pipe that has been running like pictured for the past four weeks in Vereeniging. The running water is across Mediclinic Vereeniging.  It has been reported but for weeks nothing has been done by Emfuleni Local Municipality to fix it.

“It is heart breaking to see such a precious resource being wasted like this. The water is literally gushing down the street for weeks now. I tried to turn off the supply, but the pipes are covered in mud and I wasn’t able to see a lever to turn off the supply,” he said.
