Municipal worker caught red-handed while littering

The Merafong City Local Municipality has promised that if some of its employees are found littering, they would also be fined, just like every-one else.

Carletonville – Last Monday morning, a group of workers were cleaning up rubbish on the R500 just outside Carletonville. The workers, wearing orange overalls with the municipal emblem, were putting the garbage in large black bags.

Some of the bags were left on the side of the road while the work continued.
One of the workers threw rubbish into the grass on the side of the road instead of picking it up, however. The Herald photographed her in the act of hurling a plastic bottle in the bushes.

The newspaper asked the municipality about the matter on Tuesday.
“Workers who do not abide by the law, get fined for illegal dumping just like any other regular citizen. We issue a fine of R500. Nobody is above the law,” a municipal spokesperson said.
