Carletonville crèche abuse case postponed

The case against the owner of the now closed Ninnies Neurons creche in Carletonville were postponed in court last week

The owner made her third appearance in court since giving herself over to police in July.

The case was postponed until 28 September.

Members of the organization Women and Men Against Child Abuse were present again at Oberholzer Magistrate Court today in support of the mothers of children who suffered abuse at the crèche.

In April three videos went viral depicting three separate children being brutally subjected to physical abuse which shocked the nation and spoke of extremely traumatising acts of violence. The charges against the accused have not yet been read out to the court or the public.

“Shockingly, the matter had to be postponed today despite a final reprimand for the prosecution earlier this month by the judge, who demanded a complete docket today.  The matter had to again be postponed for a further two weeks to continue the investigation and await SPP decision. At the next court date on 26 September full disclosure of the docket is again expected.

As an organization we are deeply disappointed and echo the frustrations of the mothers who were at the court today expecting to see progress but had to leave after witnessing yet another remand. The prosecution team was explicitly instructed at the last court date to be ready to proceed by today’s appearance. It is extremely disheartening that we again leave the court without a trial date set, and have to question the state’s lack of dedication to a matter this serious, especially in a time where violence against women & children is being highlighted at a national level as an emergency issue,” says Mr. Michiel Jacobsz of Women and Men Against Child Abuse.
