Lovely dog needs help and a new home after ordeal

The Carletonville SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is looking for help with a lovely pet that recently got to them after a terrible ordeal.

According to Mrs Bokkie Janse van Vuuren of the SPCA, a neighbour complained of an injured dog at a yard at Western Deep’s village on 4 July.
When SPCA personnel arrived at the yard, it was clear that the dog, a female Jack Russel terrier cross not older than a year, needed urgent help. There was a huge wound at the top of the pet’s left back leg after someone had cut her with a sharp object.
As the wound had not been attended to, it was in a bad state and the animal was in much pain.
The owner gave the SPCA permission to take the dog and she was taken to the local veterinarian for her injuries. After extensive treatment, which amounted to vet’s fees of R 1 670, the animal and her leg was saved.
The SPCA staff was however surprised at how much the dog changed since she received proper treatment.
While she was scared and skittish at first, she now loved playing, especially with children. She also gets on well with other dogs.
The dog, named “White” by SPCA staff, now needs a new home. The organization also needs help to pay the huge veterinarian’s bill.
Anyone who wants to assist are welcome to contact the SPCA at 018 788 6262 or visit their kennels in Beerster Street in Carletonville. The organization also needs dog and cat food, as supplies are starting to run low.
