Status update: Water situation in the Vaal today (Monday 24 June)

STATUS UPDATE 1: B11 PIPELINE SHUTDOWN

 

Rand Water would like to inform the public of the progress being made with respect to the shutdown of its B11 Pipeline.

Activity 1: Isolation of the Pipeline and drainage of the water
This activity commenced on schedule today at 6:00am and will be completed at 22h00 today. This 12km pipeline is 2500mm in diameter, from where significant volumes of water need to be drained. The draining of water will allow technicians to safely commence with the required cutting and welding aspect of the work. This activity is proceeding according to schedule. The isolation is complete and the line is being drained.
All the required resources are on site i.e. valve, crane and required skilled human resources etc.

Activity 2: Cutting of the Pipeline and rigging it out
The time allocated for this work is estimated at 4hours, and will commence after 22h00 today.
The remaining work activities for the duration of the Shutdown consists primarily of welding, testing and the commissioning the new line.

The Shutdown is operating on a 24hr shift structure. Rand Water has convened a ‘War Room’ at its Head Office as per protocol lead by its Acting Chief Operations Officer to monitor the reservoir levels. Rand Water will provide periodic updates every 5 hours throughout the duration of the Shutdown.
The technical teams working on the Shutdown appreciates the support of the public.
Rand Water requests consumers to continue using water sparingly.
