Hoërskool Driehoek structure collapse: Three confirmed dead – 21 injured

Critically-injured pupils are being transported by emergency helicopters to various Johannesburg hospitals.

Hoërskool Driehoek have made the following important announcements on their official Facebook group and Whatsapp channel:

VANDERBIJLPARK. – Emergency services and hospital staff are attending to 21 patients who were injured when a concrete slab, connecting two buildings at Hoërskool Driehoek, fell at about 08:30 this morning.

Currently all available emergency services, including Netcare 911, ER24, Gauteng Provincial, Midvaal Fire and Emergency, are attending to the patients.

As reported earlier, three children were fatally injured. Rumours that a fourth child has died, couldn’t be confirmed, reports Ster’s reporter/photographer Jannie du Plessis, who is still on the scene.

At least four children, three girls and a boy, are in a critical condition. Two of the girls have been flown by Netcare 911’s chopper to the Union Hospital in Alberton and the boy to Milpark. A chopper is making a return flight to take the third girl to a Johannesburg Hospital for further treatment.

As far as Ster could establish, 17 children have been admitted to Mediclinic Emfuleni.
