A milestone for local Mango Groove star

Just be brave enough to do what you want

“God make things fall in place, if you trust him. Just be brave enough to do what you want.” This is the motto of Pinkie Moseme, local star from Parys who are a permanent member of the famous Afropop band, Mango Groove, established in 1984.

On 30 August is was  a double celebration for Pinkie – not only celebrating her 30th birthday at Willow Banks, but also releasing her very first EP with a 5 song recording.
Titled BeginningOfYou, this is indeed a celebration for Pinkie saying that the recording of the EP was a spiritual journey for her. “I think God has a perfect plan, At first I did not want to be famous, but he made me realise that I have a calling for teenagers. I feel I am part of their life, and I want to help them make the right choices in life.. I speak to a lot to young people and believe that God wants me to reach out to them – also with this EP”
Being part of the Diamonds of the Future event recently held in Parys, encouraging school girls to make the most they can with their life, was a tremendous priviledge for Pinkie.

It gave her the opportunity to talk about her life, coming from the rural town of Parys, grabbing every opportunity that came her way.
After matriculating at Boitlamo Secondary School she got her diploma in Jazz and Popular Music at the Tshwane University of Technology. But it took a visit to the State Theatre to make her realise what she really wanted to do in life. With music being her passion the opportunity came to work with several artists as backing singer, including the well-known Zahara with whom she worked for 3 years .
She even started her own business, PJFunky Bridal Boutique – at first selling casual clothes, and now also hiring bridal gowns.
Her real break through came when she filled in as background singer for Mango Groove at the funeral of Banza Kgasoane, the group’s trumpet player. She attended the funeral with a friend. A few months later Mango Groove contacted her and ever since she has been part of the group.
Her EP contains Gospel Neosoul influenced by Jazz and reflecting her believe and deep relationship with God – “what I want to say to Him”. She wrote all the songs on the EP. For her, her Mother’s support is one of the biggest reasons for her success. Next year she want to study law because Pinkie believe that whatever your talent, you have to study.
