Interested persons, licencees and municipalities have until 16:00 on 31 May 2018 to comment on the National Energy Regulator of South Africaā€™s (NERSA) Draft Rules for Registration of Small-Scale Embedded Generation.

Under new draft rules every solar panel on every house as well as backup generators will have to be registered.

The draft ā€œrules for registration of small-scale embedded generationā€ leave no room for exceptions. Any form of power generator of any size will have to formally be registered. That is Photo Voltaic Cells (Solar Panels), wind generators, biogas- diesel- and fuel cell generation. All this apply toĀ both on or off-grid systems. In short even if your solar panel or generator does not connect to your local electricity network, you have to register.
