He treated his customers like family and was known for the good relationship he had with all communities not only in Parys, but also in Roshnee where he lived.
Since 1992 when he opened the Taxi Cash & Carry & Coca Cola Depot in Parys, he became known as Uncle Baki or oom Bakkies among the people of Parys. Especially residents of Tumahole were very loyal to him and his wife known to them as Makoti.
For many years their shop was the only Coca Cola Depot in town.
Baki Tickley, brother of Dr Tickley who practises in Parys, died on 22 March. He was 76 years old.
Throughout his life Baki was involved in the community looking after the Muslim Mosque close to his shop since 1992, as well as two Mosques in Roshnee for more than ten years.
In his younger days his involvement in sport tournaments for the Indian community in Vereeniging, was well known. He himself played with the same enthusiasm that he organised sport games on a regular basis.
The death of his daughter, Shahira, in a car accident just outside Parys 7 years ago, was a tremendous shock to him.
His son Asif, is a well-knwon optician in Vanderbijlaprk, while his other son Fuad, helped in the shop for many years.
He also has 7 grandchildren.
Baki was one of nine children.
