Renal Care Centre up and running

The Parys Renal Care Centre has been up and running since the beginning of March.

The centre provides comprehensive, affordable and quality dialysis services to patients who have been diagnosed with kidney failure. The aim is simply to improve the quality of life of kidney disease patients residing in Parys.
There are already nine patients at the centre with place for more, says Joyce Makgalamele, the renal specialist trained nurse.
The centre is owned by Thirdway Investment Group, which is an investment company founded by John Oliphant. John was born and raised in Parys and is always keen to invest in initiatives that will uplift the community of Parys.
A close family member of John was  diagnosed with kidney failure in 2016. This diagnosis made him aware of the challenges facing kidney disease patients in Parys. Previously, they had to travel distances to renal centres, thus spending    time away from work and family and also incurring significant travel costs.
Currently, the Parys Renal Centre hours are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 06:00 till 21:00 and on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 06:00 till 17:00. The longer hours specifically cater for working patients. Of the five personnel members at the centre, there are two qualified, experienced nephrology nurses. The centre has partnered with a Johannesburg-based nephrologist who will visit the centre once a month.
