The address harvesting and registration weekend on 10 and 11 March went fairly smoothly in the Ngwathe municipal area – unlike in Mangaung (Bloemfontein- Botshabelo)   where wet, windy weather caused a few tents to be flooded or blown down.
In Parys, the library and town hall were the busiest, followed by the NG Kerk Parys-Wes. Saturday and Sunday mornings were     especially busy, with a steady stream of voters checking that their details were correct,   re-registering or registering for the first time.
The same applied at the Vredefort Town Hall. Larger voting stations, for example, in Schonkenville and Mokwallo were also busy.
Saal de Jager, the DA Ward 12 councillor, says many people who simply went to make sure that their details were correct on the voters’ roll, were annoyed when they still had to fill out a new form.  ‘This slowed down the process and caused some people to leave,’ he said.
There will be two more registration week-ends nearer to the 2019 elections and the IEC officials will visit the retirement centres. Voters can also register at the IEC offices in Liebenbergstrek in Parys during office hours, or online at www.elections.org.za/MyIEC.
