Hazel Möller and Tumelo Mokobane are doing 10 Comrades in 10 days raising money for pets, running 900 km from 26 May to 4 June.
The last day will be Comrades 2017! This means an astonishing 90 km Comrades distance each day consecutively for the 9 days leading up to the epic ultra marathon, then culminating the official Comrades on Sunday, 4 June.
Hazel completed many Comrades ultra marathons and other ultra marathons. She also did a double 100-miler 322 km. Tumelo has done a few Comrades ultra marathons and 3 000 km since January 2017!
Hazel and Tumelo’s efforts are in aid of Pet Empowerment in Townships (Pets) and Underdogs SA. Pets works with the community to improve the lives of disadvantaged animals by giving them daily meals, warm shelters, regular inoculations, sterilisations and vet care in emergencies. They also rehome those ones that are unwanted, unloved or lost. They try to instil in the communities a responsibility and pride for their animals by not just empowering the animals, but also by educating and helping people uplift themselves.
Underdogs SA is the only pit bull breed- specific registered NPO of its kind in South Africa, founded in 2011. They rescue and rehabilitate, then home the pit bulls with the assistance of qualified vets and animal behaviour specialists.
