A road and maintenance worker was shocked to discover the skeleton of a man in the bush on the side of the R54 at about 10:48 on Thursday, 18 May.
The man from Potchefstroom who asked to remain anonymous says he found the body about 30.4 km outside Potchefstroom on the Fochville road.

‘I needed to urinate and I decided to go into the bush. While I was there, I saw bones protruding from the legs of a pair of trousers. Bones and hair were all that was left of the body. I immediately called the police and, when they arrived at the scene, they discovered that the deceased’s hands were still tied up,’ he said.
Const. Elsie Tshonte, the Fochville SAPS spokesperson, confirmed that the Fochville SAPS had opened an inquest docket.
‘The cause of death will only be confirmed after the post-mortem results are released. The person is unknown and the station has no report of a missing person,’ she said.
