Graveyard begging to be maintained

The Potchefstroom graveyard is overgrown with long grass and weeds.

One of the residents says the grass has not been cut for months and believes it is not safe for people visiting the graves to pay their respects to their loved ones.
The council spokesperson, Willie Maphosa, says the cemeteries are overgrown because of the good rain we have been having so far. ‘Currently, there is a team assigned to cut the grass and they are even working after hours to catch up the backlog,’ he said.

Maphosa says there is an additional plan to get service providers to augment the municipality’s capacity. This will only be done after the council has approved the adjustment budget on 28 February, however.
